Inexpensive and efficient public transportation

By Ela Dutta

It is been over ten years since I came to the US to work here and eventually become a citizen of the United States. Initially when I came here everything seemed new and strange. It took me sometime to learn the American way of living.

When I took up my first job, I bought a

second hand car and drove it to my workplace. This was fine for some days but later it was becoming stressful and monotonous as I had to drive 50 miles and in the peak hours, the traffic was too congested. I decided to try alternative means of commute. Having that streak of adventure, I decided to discover all the alternative means of transportation.

These are all the alternatives that I have discovered.

Bus Services

Though the frequency of bus services is less it is one of the most convenient and efficient means of transportation. Bus services often provide express in and out of the town transportation.

Car Pools

Joining a carpool can be another option. This could save you up to 3000 $ a year on fuel, maintenance and parking. Carpoolers can also save 30 minutes or more by using the commuter lanes.

Light Rail and Cable System

The light rail or cable system is another effective and inexpensive means of transportation that could beat the traffic

Commuter Trains

While traveling from one urban area to another commuter, trains are the best option.

Ferry

Take a ferry ride to your workplace while enjoying the beautiful view.

Commuter Lanes

Save money by using the commuter lanes. They are located next to most freeways where traffic congestion is a problem.

This is a country of resources. You could find everything you are looking for. All you need is a little patience and a streak of adventure to discover the resources available.
