The rules, the team size, and even the league size is different
for each of the sports. Each of them is represented by associations
NBA, NFL, NHL etc.
The Association
are powerful enough to generate Billions through their merchandise
which is sold worldwide such as the famous T-shirt of Michael
Jordan and the Nike Jordan pump shoes and the infamous Michael
Jordan perfume.
Football is
more violent than the other two and is most liked by the men in
high schools and colleges. American football is a rough, demanding
game and requires special protective equipment. It is too violent
to play more than once a week. It is played in the fall and winter,
by colleges on Saturdays and professional teams on Sundays. At
the end of the year, there are many college championship games
and one professional "Super-Bowl", the most widely watched television
event in the country. Another great excitement is the High school
football leagues and their rivalries.
Basketball
is also a popular sport, and played widely in colleges. The college
tournament popularly known as “March Madness,” starts with a team
of 64 and goes on the whole month. The tournament is followed
with a nationwide excitement. Professional basketball is also
very popular, and ends with an elaborate series of tournaments
each May. Professional Basketball stars are one of the highest
paid of all American athletes, often making many times their basketball
salaries by endorsing athletic shoes and other products.
Baseball is
another popular game and it is played for the longest period from
April through October. Two leagues, the National and the American,
each one with a western and an eastern division play the game.
Each team plays 162 games during the baseball season. At the end
of regular season, the best teams in both the eastern and western
division of each league play seven games with each other in a
playoff series. The winners of the American and national league
then play each other in the “world series”.
