Writing a Cheque

The important points to be remembered while writing a cheque:

  • Any date format can be used to write the current date. Give a future date for post-dated cheque.
  • In the column "pay to the order of" or "Payable to" write the name of the company or the person who is receiving the cheque.
  • In the space provided for amount write the specified amount in numbers starting with the dollar sign $ or US$.
  • Give your signature at the lower right of the cheque.

Note the cheque number, date, amount and the payee in the cheque ledger given at the front of the chequebook.
