Collision
and comprehensive coverage
Collision
In
the event an accident occurs, the collision coverage pays your
vehicle repair. Collision coverage is usually the most expensive
part of the auto insurance.
Comprehensive
This comprehensive coverage pays for damages caused
by reasons other than auto accident like theft, vandalism, or
natural disaster.
Medical payments, PIP and no fault coverage
Medical
payment coverage pays for your passenger medical expenses in the
event of an accident. Such expenses are for injuries caused by
accidents while you are driving your car or someone else's car
(with their permission).
Personal injury protection (PIP) and in broader terms "no-fault"
coverage are expanded forms of medical payments protection that
could be required in your state.
Uninsured,
Underinsured motorists
The
uninsured motorist coverage pays your medical bills if you are
injured in a hit and run case or by some one who does not have
an auto insurance.
Underinsured motorists (UIM) coverage will pay out if the driver
who hit you causes more damage than his or her liability coverage
can cover. In some states, UM or UIM average also pay for property
damages.
Other
features
Several other types of coverage are available, either as separate
premium items or included in augmented policies.
