Formal & Informal Events

Parties and social events can be quite a confusing issue to foreigners and newcomers. First, you have to determine what kind of party it is, either formal or informal. What kind of food/drinks would be served, whether a gift is expected or not and what kind of gift will be the most appropriate one.

In some places, informal means jeans and T-shirts. For some others it could mean sports jackets and ties. It is always better to ask specific questions like "what do I need to wear"? About how you should dress when someone invites. Even if it requires informal wear, clean clothes are a must.

Formal clothing also known as black ties are tuxedoes for men and evening dress for women.
