Once you locate the power companies operating in your area, you could contact them through phone or the Internet.

You would be asked for your name and address. While registering the power company representative will check your credit rating to determine whether or not you would be required to pay a deposit.

If you do not have a credit record in the USA, most likely you would be required to pay a security deposit. Usually the security deposit would be repaid in a period of a year if the bills were paid regularly. You would get the electrical service connection within 24 hours of paying the security deposit.

Decide your payment method
You are offered two options of settling your electricity bills. One option is paying the bill every month. The other option is to pay an estimated sum of money every month that is based on the yearly average for the property. Any difference between the actual cost and the estimated cost could be redeemed at the end of the year.

You could settle your electricity bills using your personal cheques, with major credit cards, bankers cheques or even online with some of the electricity utility companies.
