When you see some one in a medical emergency or if you require immediate medical attention, the first thing to do is call 911. Dialing 911 is an immediate way to contact local emergency services (law enforcement, fire or medical) during an emergency.

men and women who are on call 24 hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year. They are trained to assist in getting emergency help to you as quickly as possible. The operator handling your call immediately sends the necessary help and directs your call to a counselor, who will guide you through the situation until the help is on the way.

Most US hospitals are thoroughly equipped to dispense high quality medical care. Ambulance attendants and paramedics are highly trained in dealing with trauma and critical life saving decisions.
Do keep the following information with you at all times. It may prove to be valuable and important.

  • Any specific conditions such as diabetes
  • Allergies to medications
  • Any other pertinent information that may save the paramedics time.

Emergency care in the US is truly world class, but it also comes at an enormous price. It is important to call the 911 during a real emergency, these services are best avoided when a call to the local doctor or visit to the walk in clinic would suffice.
