2) A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond the applicant's intended period of stay in the United States. If more than one person is included in the passport, each person desiring a visa must make an application.

3) Two photographs 1 and 1/2 inches square (37x37 mm) for each applicant, showing full face, without head covering, against a light background.

Supporting Documents

In addition to the above documents, you would need to provide supporting documents based on your visa category. The supporting documents for the business, student and temporary work visa categories are mentioned below:

Business

  • Applicants must demonstrate that they are properly classifiable as visitors under U.S. law. Evidence, which shows the purpose of the trip, intent to depart the United States, and arrangements made to cover the costs of the trip, may be provided.
  • Persons traveling to the U.S. on business can present a letter from the U.S. business firm indicating the purpose of the trip, the bearer's intended length of stay and the firm's intent to defray travel costs.
  • Persons traveling to the U.S. for pleasure may use letters from relatives or friends in the U.S. whom the applicant plans to visit or confirmation of participation in a planned tour.
  • Persons traveling to the U.S. for medical treatment should have a statement from a doctor or institution concerning proposed medical treatment.
  • Those applicants who do not have sufficient funds to support themselves while in the U.S. must present convincing evidence that an interested person will provide support. Visitors are not permitted to accept employment during their stay in the U.S. Depending on individual circumstances, applicants may provide other evidence substantiating the trip's purpose and specifying the nature of binding obligations, such as family ties or employment, which would compel their return abroad.

Students

1. I-20 Certificate of Eligibility from your school or university in the U.S. 2. Completed Student Questionnaire (Form SGP V-4, USEIC 06/98) 3. Evidence of financial resources.

This must include:

  • Evidence of scholarship, if applicable
  • If your parents are your sponsor, they must write a letter stating that they will provide support for your studies in the U.S. If you have a sponsor other than your parents, s/he must complete an affidavit of support witnessed by a notary public or commissioner of oaths. This affidavit should state specifically the relationship between the sponsor and the student and the kind of financial evidence used to demonstrate support. No letter or affidavit is required if you are sponsoring yourself.
  • You must show evidence that your sponsor has sufficient funds immediately available to meet all expenses of the first year of study, as well as that s/he has a sufficient income to provide funds for subsequent years of study.

Temporary Workers

  • Requirements for a Temporary Worker Visa:
  • Notice of approval Form I-797.
  • In order to be considered as a nonimmigrant under the Temporary worker visa category the applicant's prospective employer or agent must file Form I-129, Petition for Nonimmigrant Worker, with the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
  • Once approved, the employer or agent is sent a notice of approval, Form I-797. With the exception of the H-1 and L-1, applicants may also need to show proof of binding ties to a residence in home country which they have no intention of abandoning.
