Some airports have buses, subways or trains that take you into the city. But if you are loaded down with luggage, then you should consider any of the above options even though they are a little expensive than this.

Bus Services

It is the most economical but the slowest means of transportation. There are many companies running buses between the American cities but the major ones are Greyhound and Trail ways. Though bus travel is slow you can see a lot of America by bus travel. Most buses have comfortable seats, are air conditioned, have toilets and make frequent stops for food.

Rail Travel

Railways are one of the major means of intercity travel. Amtrak is the largest national passenger railroad. Trains vary in the services they offer. For further information visit http://www.amtrak.com

Commuter trains are specialized railroads mainly meant for bringing people from the suburbs and then back home on a daily basis. This is a good alternative for automobile travel. They have only one class of travel and do not have any reservations. The ticket can be purchased at an urban or suburban station or on the train, though there might be an extra charge if you boarded at a station where the ticket office was open. The frequency of running the commuter trains is more during rush hours than during nights and weekends.

The passenger railroad offers two classes of services: the coach and the sleeping car. If you are on an overnight train you have to reserve your sleeping accommodations in advance.
