The Singapore
Dollar (S$) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of S$5,
10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 10,000. Coins are denomination
of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Singapore Cents, and S$1.
All major credit cards including MasterCard, American Express,
Diners Club and Visa are widely accepted in Singapore. Major
foreign currencies, travellers cheques and cheques can be
changed at most banks and licensed moneychangers. Automated
teller machine facilities (ATM) are also widely available
in Singapore.
Tipping is not common in Singapore. Hotels and restaurants
may impose a 10% service charge, and a gratuity is not expected
in excess of this. Bargaining is falling by the wayside shops,
but tourists could still expect to haggle for luxury items
and souvenirs. It is unnecessary to bargain for everyday goods
or transport.
