In order to work in Singapore you need an employment pass that is sponsored by a local sponsor, that is usually the employing company.

Kinds of employment passes in Singapore are:
Employment Pass P
Employment Pass Q
Employment Pass R
Professional Visit Pass
Visit Pass for Training
Dependents Pass

Employment Pass P

The employment pass P is for individuals possessing professional qualifications and seeking professional, administrative, executive or managerial jobs or entrepreneurs. A person having a P pass can be accompanied by spouse and dependent children below 21 Years of age on dependent passes. Aged parents or parents-in-laws can also accompany on long-term social visit passes.

Prerequisites

The basic monthly salary for issuing a P1 pass should be more than S$7,000 and, for issuing a P2 pass the salary should range between S$3,500 and S$7,000.

Validity Period

The P pass is issued initially for a period of two years that could be extended subsequently to three years.

Employment pass Q

The employment pass Q is for skilled workers and technicians who fall between the P and R levels

Prerequisites

The basic monthly salary for issuing a Q1 pass should be more than S$2,000 provided the specified educational requirements are met. A Q2 Pass is issued on exceptional grounds.

Validity Period

The Q pass is issued initially for a period of two years that could be extended subsequently to three years.

Employment Pass R

The R visa is for semi skilled workers (R1) and Unskilled workers (R2)

Professional Visit Pass

The professional visit pass is for professionals who work in Singapore on short-term assignments i.e. for a period less than three months.

Visit Pass for Training

Professionals intending to undergo training in Singapore and are paid a salary of more than $2,000 per month could apply for a visit pass for training.

Dependents Pass

The dependents pass is for the spouse and children under 21 of the employment pass holder. The spouses holding dependent passes could also work in Singapore by applying for a letter of consent from the Singapore Immigration and registration.
