plies the main stretches across the island, while buses
cover other routes. Some premier buses and taxis provide
a faster and a comfortable ride at a higher price.
MRT
The MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) is a fast and the most convenient
way to move around, with trains arriving and leaving every
few minutes. These trains operate from 5:45 am to 12:15
am. Presently, there are 48 stations spread around the island
and 85 trains serving almost a million passengers daily.

Buses
Buses are the cheapest mode of public transport in Singapore.
The buses operate from 5.30 a.m. to midnight on a comprehensive
network of routes. To have the listing of bus services serving
Singapore, a bus guide can be bought for $1.50 at all bookshops
and bus terminals.
There are three companies in Singapore providing public
bus services- SBS (the red and white buses), Trans Island
(the yellow and white ones) and Singapore Shuttle Bus (the
smaller, orange colored ones).
The bus fares range from 55 cents to $1.20 for non-air-conditioned
buses, and from 60 cents to $1.50 for air-conditioned.

Taxis
Taxis are available from taxi stands and hotels; they can
also be hired on the roads if there no stand nearby and
there will not be any interruption to the traffic. You can
hire a taxi even through telephone and Internet. Singapore
has one of the lowest flag-down rates starting at S$2.80
(US$1.75) with surcharges of S$3 (US$1.9) from the airport
and S$1 (US$0.60) into the central business district at
certain hours of the day.
